About Us
Thanks to the generosity of the Howard G. Buffett Foundation, 10 Cronkite School journalism students and two professors traveled to South Africa in June 2008 to document the lives of immigrants. From their base at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, the students traveled by train and bus to the Zimbabwe border, by cab to the Central Methodist Church, by foot to a Catholic soup kitchen and by car to homes and schools, orphanages and poverty-stricken townships. Since the trip took place right after the xenophobic attacks of May 2008, the students also reported about foreigners no longer welcome in South Africa who had fled to U.N. displacement camps.

The Cronkite team would like to thank Howard Buffett for his generosity, the University of the Witwatersrand journalists for their hospitality, the University of Nebraska team members for their contagious enthusiasm and the Lovely and Gracious Mrs. Dodge for her dedication.
